Love Desire and God 1987/88

London! What a fun place to be when you are young free and single with a few quid in your pocket. As a rather green young Scotsman I was wowed by the anarchic thrum of the capitol...I was lucky enough to apply for and get a job with a bunch of creative types in a little church hall in Bounds Green called 'Haringay Community Workshops'. It was basically a government scheme to get people off the dole and doing something er, useful...however most of our time was spent farting around drinking tea and planning entertainments for ourselves and our clients as a kind of workshop experience. I do honestly believe that some of them enjoyed the fruits of our creative lunacy.

As for the music and the ambitions of getting a band together..mmm well they kind of fell by the wayside as the mad hedonism of London living took over. That is not to say we didn't do any music..we did..mountains of it, as the player on this page shows (and it's just a fraction of it). But this music was born of idleness, experiment and substance abuse and whatever equipment we could lay our hands on. There were a good few musicians at the house of 'work' and we all collaborated along the way at some point..there is however a dearth of proper songs and rather alot of stream of conciousness sound art and general pratting about.

These were heady days for me and like I said I found London to be a place of fun and iniquity in equal measures..it seemed like everyone was wheeling and dealing in whatever way they could to work the system and make a bit of dosh. Cash in hand side jobs were commonplace as were grotty flats and squats..I was lucky, I had a place in Muswell Hill to live in that my father handed on to me to rent. They were great times tho' and I made some dear friends whom I still keep in touch with to this day. I guess I was very lucky to stumble upon that job advert in Wood Green job center, it would have been a very different story if I hadn't.

Anyway..as usual things moved on, the job was wound up and we all went our seperate ways.
My missus and I moved up to Edinburgh and for a long time I regretted leaving London..I really wanted to go back there. The next episode in the Scottish capitol was a darker time for me.
